Light rain falls, the streets are empty, and only a few solitary umbrellas move slowly. The phone screen displays news of Ethereum's plummet, with my account balance reduced to three digits. The desolation outside intertwines with my personal downfall.
I am unwilling to accept this; why have I failed so miserably?
From a small-town student to being admitted to Wuhan University, then to a graduate program at the University of Hong Kong, every step has been hard-earned. Yet now, I am nearly bankrupt, with nothing left.
Last year, I quit my job, taking 200,000 yuan of savings accumulated over a year and a half to dive into the cryptocurrency field. At first, everything was wonderful: monitoring the market daily, researching projects, analyzing trends, feeling freer than at work, as if I were fighting for myself. During that time, I made small profits, made friends, and shared opportunities.
From the beginning of the year to the end, my status was good, with cumulative profits exceeding 1 million yuan, but I hadn't withdrawn any. In December, the market rhythm changed, and I judged that altcoins would explode, deciding to bottom out on BOME. I fantasized about replicating PEPE's miracle, buying from 0.008 all the way down to 0.003. This morning's crash led to liquidation, even though the leverage was less than 3 times.
I bet everything, yet it all turned to nothing.
Ironically, I had my parents buy $bome starting from 0.004, averaging down to 0.003, and now it has nearly halved. I can hardly bear my own losses, yet I have dragged my parents down with me, feeling deeply guilty.
This Spring Festival feels like sitting on pins and needles, checking the exchange account drop daily, facing friends and family asking about work, with no confidence. Every day of hard work yields no rewards, life is tough, and I am mocked by relatives: “After studying so much, you still have no stable job.”
I am confused; who can actually profit on exchanges? After a 5-fold drop, can it drop another 4-fold? New coins launch and drop 4-5 times immediately? In such circumstances, can anyone really make money?
My emotions are complex, unwilling yet lost. I put in effort, but the results are always unsatisfactory. The once passionate goals now feel like paper soaked by rain, blurred and unclear. I do not know where the road ahead leads, or if I can stand up again.
